Poznań University of Technology
Project goal
The Vice-Chancellor has decided to implement a modern building information system based on innaviGO indoor navigation solution. The goal was to improve the communication in the university buildings and campus, to provide information important for the students, and to publish announcements and news.
System structure
The System is composed of three interactive digital signage terminals with touch screens, located at key points of three large university buildings, which interact within a single system with several dozen monitors that display the informative and multimedia contents designed by the editors. The digital signage monitors are hung in corridors and lecture rooms. The touch screens are based on the LFD (Large Format Displays) technology by Samsung and on 46-inch monitors with PVA matrix and infra-red touch sensor. Each terminal is equipped with an integrated computer with efficient processor and graphic card to ensure smooth animation and the possibility to display Full HD contents in the best quality. The “Class A” certificate allows to use the terminals in public space. Everything is enclosed in an aesthetic vandal-resistant housing.

Basic functionality
The users of the terminals may view different floor plans with the interactive layout prepared by the implementation team. By simply touching a chosen room on the screen, the user gets all the relevant information. The same effect is achieved by using the interactive list of all the rooms located in the building.
The owner also demanded the possibility to quickly search the information on the university staff, which has been fulfilled using the integrated search engine with an on-screen keyboard. Just the first three letters of a surname are enough to obtain a list of results.
The university also uses the functions of creating interactive presentations, thus providing full information on the work of the library, contained on the System sub-pages with the possibility to navigate around them.
Additionally, the digital signage monitors located in different points on corridors and by lecture rooms display the information prepared by the Information and Promotion Office. Due to the simplicity and flexibility of content management, innaviGO is also used in promotion depending on the current events, e.g. to display dedicated informative and advertising contents during conferences.
Implementation
The system's indoor navigation functions are based on vectorised building plans where the room arrangement is simplified for improved clarity. Using the administration panel, the content editors add and update the room descriptions, design information screens and interactive presentations. The employee search function uses, in real time, the data located in a separate internal system integrated with innaviGO.
The system is designed in such a way to deactivate automatically after the building working hours and reactivate upon opening.
